Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Towson, MD
Empower students with visual impairments to excel through specialized support in a contract position for the upcoming academic year. This dynamic opportunity near Towson, MD, involves providing school-based vision services within a close-knit cluster of schools. With 37.5 hours per week across full or part-time options (to be discussed during the interview), you’ll collaborate with a dedicated team of Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and Orientation & Mobility specialists.
Leverage your expertise to work directly with students, tailor services to their evolving needs, and participate in virtual IEP meetings while onsite—minimizing unnecessary travel. Caseload assignment and itinerancy will center around your strengths, especially in braille: those highly skilled in braille may work within fewer schools, while others may support a broader group of students across more sites but with less frequent travel.
Qualifications:
- Valid Maryland teaching certificate with Vision endorsement from MSDE
- Demonstrated experience or training as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- Proficiency in braille preferred—placement may be tailored accordingly
- Satisfactory completion of House Bill 486 background check, fingerprinting, and employment history review
- Ability to travel between schools within a defined cluster
- High level of professional communication skills and flexibility
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized vision services according to IEP mandates
- Attend all IEP meetings virtually while maintaining a base onsite
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive support
- Adapt instruction and materials for students with visual impairments
