Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) | Towson, Maryland
Embark on a rewarding contract role supporting students with visual impairments for the upcoming academic year in the Baltimore area. This assignment offers a dynamic mix of on-site vision services across a close cluster of schools, with the added flexibility of attending IEP meetings virtually while situated at a school location. Your responsibilities will include delivering direct vision services per IEPs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and participating remotely in IEP meetings throughout the school day. The caseload and itinerancy will be customized to your strengths: whether you have advanced braille skills or excel in other areas of vision education, your assignment will fit your expertise. You’ll serve a variety of students with diverse needs, ranging from occasional support across multiple schools to focused services in one to three schools, depending on your skill set.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid Maryland teaching certificate with Vision endorsement (MSDE)
- Demonstrated expertise supporting students who are visually impaired
- Proficiency in braille a strong asset, but not mandatory
- Experience crafting and implementing IEPs
- Comfort with hybrid service delivery (in-person and virtual IEP)
- Commitment to school-based presence; remote work from home is not available
- Ability to clear district background and employment checks
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized vision services across assigned schools
- Attend virtual IEP meetings on campus to minimize travel
- Support students’ academic success and inclusion
- Monitor progress and document service delivery
- Collaborate with school teams and families
