The role is conveniently located in the Tyler, TX area and offers a consistent 37.5-hour workweek, Monday through Friday.
As an advocate and educator for students with visual impairments, you will play a crucial role in fostering independence, developing individualized learning strategies, and collaborating with a dedicated educational team. You'll create accessible learning environments and ensure all students have the resources they need to thrive.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Valid Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) certification in Texas
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or comparable field (TVI emphasis preferred)
- Strong understanding of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive strategies
- Experience supporting K-12 students with visual impairments in a school setting
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction tailored to individual education plans (IEPs)
- Conduct assessments and develop accommodations for visually impaired students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to facilitate student success
- Utilize and teach adaptive technology and Braille as needed
- Advocate for accessible curriculum and learning environments
