Make a meaningful difference as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in a full-time, school-year contract role serving students in grades Early Childhood through 12th. Enjoy the variety of traveling across several districts in Lake County and supporting a caseload of approximately 12 to 18 students with diverse visual needs. Your expertise will help create positive educational outcomes for students who are blind or visually impaired, empowering them to thrive and access their curriculum.
Flexible scheduling is built right in, with a guaranteed 7.5-hour day (including lunch) running from 8am to 3:30pm. Depending on your experience, rates start at $35 per hour and may increase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and specialized services to students with visual impairments across multiple school settings.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals tailored to student needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, school staff, and families to support inclusive education and accessibility.
- Conduct ongoing assessments to track student progress and adjust educational plans as needed.
- Advocate for accessible materials, assistive technology, and classroom modifications.
- Offer training and consultation to teams and caregivers on best practices for working with visually impaired students.
- Maintain detailed records and documentation for compliance.
Desired Qualifications:
- State licensure/certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (or eligibility).
- Previous experience working with students from Early Childhood through high school is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive techniques.
- Ability to travel reliably within Lake County.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
