Key Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Valid Kentucky Special Education Teacher certification with a Visual Impairment (VI) endorsement
  • Experience providing instruction and support for students who are blind or have low vision, ideally in a school-based setting
  • Expertise in adapting curriculum, assistive technology, and accessible instructional materials
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate closely with educators, paraprofessionals, families, and related service providers
  • Ability to travel between school sites if required

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments, in accordance with federal and state mandates
  • Assess students' needs and adapt instructional methods and materials to accommodate their unique learning styles and goals
  • Teach core academic content, daily living skills, orientation and mobility concepts, as appropriate
  • Consult with classroom teachers and support staff to make the environment and curriculum as accessible and inclusive as possible
  • Provide ongoing evaluation and support to ensure students make progress toward achieving their IEP goals
