Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification
- Proven experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in a school environment
- Strong knowledge of Braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible classroom materials
- Comfort with assessment techniques, developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and conducting functional vision assessments
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Compassion, patience, and adaptability to meet diverse student needs
Role Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual needs and design customized lesson plans focused on accessibility and skill development
- Teach Braille literacy, orientation and mobility skills, and technology use for access to curriculum
- Serve as a resource for classroom teachers and support staff, providing strategies and modifications to deliver content effectively
- Track student progress, participate in IEP meetings, and maintain thorough documentation
- Foster positive relationships with families and advocate for students’ needs within the school community
- Remain up-to-date with best practices and current resources for visually impaired education
