Required credentials and preferred background:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (VI)
- Previous experience working with students who are visually impaired is advantageous
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with educators, families, and support staff
- Ability to adapt curriculum and materials to support accessibility and success
- Organized, flexible, and committed to fostering independence and empowerment in every learner
Your responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative instructional support for students with visual impairments district-wide
- Assess student needs and develop Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and instructional strategies
- Modify classroom materials, develop accessible lesson plans, and teach use of assistive technology and Braille (where required)
- Offer guidance and training to classroom teachers and support staff for effective inclusion
- Collaborate with families and related service providers to ensure comprehensive support
- Monitor and record student progress, reporting outcomes and adjusting methods for ongoing improvement
