What you’ll need to succeed:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (VI certification)
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired preferred
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to create individualized lesson plans and implement appropriate accommodations
- Familiarity with assistive technology for visual impairments
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering direct instruction and specialized teaching to students with visual impairments across the district
- Developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Consulting with classroom teachers and staff to adapt materials and modify instruction for student needs
- Assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records
- Coordinating use of assistive devices, Braille, large print, and other adapted materials
- Serving as an advocate for students and a resource for their families and educators
