Key Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proven experience adapting curriculum and materials for students with visual impairments
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility techniques
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work with students across multiple grade levels
- Passion for advocacy and promoting inclusive educational environments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional vision and educational needs
- Deliver direct instruction in Braille, assistive technology, and compensatory skills
- Modify general curriculum materials to ensure accessibility for visually impaired students
- Work closely with classroom teachers and support staff to model strategies and provide resources
- Participate in IEP meetings, track student progress, and complete required documentation
- Offer training and consultation to school personnel, students, and families
