Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment
- Experience serving K-12 students with visual disabilities
- Proficiency in Braille instruction and assistive technology for the visually impaired
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with families, teachers, and support staff
- Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability in developing individualized learning strategies
- Dedication to fostering an inclusive, supportive educational environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s needs
- Deliver direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive tech
- Consult with general educators to modify materials and accommodate students
- Foster self-advocacy and life skills for visually impaired students
- Conduct assessments to monitor progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly
- Participate in IEP meetings and advocate for student needs
- Provide resources, strategies, and training to school staff and families
