Make an impact as an itinerant teacher for students with visual impairments, serving multiple schools across Central Illinois communities—including Bloomington, Normal, El Paso, Downs, Pontiac, LeRoy, and Colfax. This rewarding full-time contract position covers a 12-week maternity leave, expected from late October through mid-February. You’ll collaborate with school teams, support a diverse student population, and play a vital role in fostering independence and academic success.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Current state teaching certification with an endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with students who have visual impairments in school settings
- Strong understanding of assistive technology, Braille, and adaptive instructional strategies
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between multiple school sites
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to collaborate with educators, families, and specialists
- Flexibility and adaptability for supporting students with a wide range of ages and abilities
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional services to students with visual impairments in alignment with IEP goals
- Conduct functional vision assessments and provide written reports
- Advise and collaborate with general and special education staff on accommodations and modifications
- Instruct in Braille, orientation and mobility, and technology use as required
- Consult with families and support teams to encourage student independence and advocate for access
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress across multiple locations
