Teacher of Visually Impaired in Hixson, TN
Step into a crucial role supporting students with visual impairments across a dynamic school setting in the Chattanooga area. This full-time contract opportunity (35 hours per week, with potential consideration for part-time) runs from August 5, 2026, to May 19, 2027, providing specialized educational support to students in grades K-12+.
You’ll work on an itinerant basis, traveling between pre-assigned schools to minimize commute time while enriching the academic experience for both general education students and those with multiple disabilities. The district values your expertise in Braille, assistive technology, and your insight into programs such as the Federal Quota. You’ll participate in IEP meetings for your caseload using the TN Pulse platform and help students navigate Chromebooks and other adaptive tools.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid and active DOE teaching certification
- Experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, comfortable with K-12+ student populations
- Familiarity with Braille and assistive technology is essential
- Understanding of the Federal Quota program and adaptive technology funding is a plus
- Able to travel between schools within an assigned geographic region
- Fingerprinting clearance required before assignment
