In this role, you will:
- Deliver direct instructional support and specialized services to visually impaired students (caseload and age range to be determined)
- Travel between several schools each day to address student needs and provide expert guidance
- Collaborate with general education staff to ensure materials are available in Braille or other accessible formats
- Source, adapt, and prepare specialized textbooks and adaptive learning resources
- Conduct in-service training sessions for school personnel to support inclusive educational practices
- Communicate regularly with the Louisiana Department of Education regarding student progress and implementation of services
- Serve as a go-to resource for assistive technology, offering training for both students and staff
- Provide Braille instruction and assist with orientation and mobility training as needed
- Complete record-keeping, documentation, and other duties as assigned by program leadership
Key qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree and valid certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, with active Louisiana DOE credentials
- At least 3 years of teaching experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education
- Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology for visually impaired students
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
- Independence and willingness to travel between sites using personal transportation
- Successful completion of drug screening and fingerprinting
