Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in visual impairment
- Proven experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in school environments
- Strong understanding of IEPs, adaptive technology, and Braille instruction
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with students, families, and educational teams
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to fit diverse needs and learning levels
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess student needs and develop individualized instructional strategies
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, use of assistive technology, and orientation/mobility skills when required
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations
- Participate in IEP meetings, progress monitoring, and evaluation referrals
- Advocate for students’ access to instructional materials and educational opportunities
- Provide consultative services for staff and families regarding visual impairment issues
