Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana Department of Education certification required, with specialized certification in teaching visually impaired students.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in general, special, or elementary/secondary education.
- Experience providing Braille instruction and proficiency in assistive technology designed for visually impaired learners.
- Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and strong communication skills for engaging with colleagues, students, and families.
- Ability to travel daily between multiple sites, maintaining flexibility and effective time management.
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus.
- Ability to pass required district credentialing procedures, including drug screening and fingerprinting.
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional services to visually impaired students, adapting lessons and materials for individual needs.
- Collaborate regularly with general education teachers to prepare accessible instructional materials.
- Obtain special textbooks and resources and help integrate assistive technologies into the learning environment.
- Lead in-service training for school staff, ensuring comprehensive support for visually impaired students.
- Maintain thorough communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and perform administrative tasks as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA and district expectations while promoting a culture of inclusion and empowerment.
This position runs from August 3, 2026, through May 27, 2027, with a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week. Physical requirements include the ability to travel between schools and occasional light lifting or equipment use.
