Responsibilities include:
- Delivering direct instructional support and specialized services to visually impaired students (age range and specific caseload TBD)
- Traveling between various schools daily to address student needs and provide expert guidance
- Collaborating with general educators to ensure tailored materials are readily available in Braille or appropriate mediums
- Sourcing and preparing specialized textbooks and adaptive learning materials
- Conducting in-service trainings for school personnel to foster inclusive educational environments
- Communicating regularly with the Louisiana Department of Education on student progress and service implementation
- Serving as a resource for assistive technology designed for visually impaired learners, offering both student and staff training
- Providing Braille instruction and, when applicable, supporting orientation and mobility training
- Completing record-keeping, documentation, and additional duties as assigned by program leadership
Key qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, with active Louisiana DOE credentials
- At least 3 years of teaching experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education settings
- Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology for the visually impaired
- Strong communication, analytical problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and travel between school sites using personal transportation
- Drug screening and fingerprinting required for employment
