Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional services to visually impaired students across elementary, secondary, and special education settings.
- Travel daily to multiple site locations to facilitate services and assess student needs.
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to prepare appropriate instructional materials, including Braille and adapted texts.
- Train school personnel to foster supportive environments and ensure consistent implementation of supports and accommodations.
- Maintain communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and stay current with protocol and advocacy for students with visual impairments.
- Obtain and distribute specialized textbooks, assistive technology, and relevant resources.
- Maintain records and fulfill reporting requirements as directed by the Director of IDEA.
- Additional responsibilities as directed to ensure program effectiveness.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required, plus active Louisiana DOE certification and specific certification for teaching the visually impaired.
- At least three years of experience in educational settings (elementary, secondary, or special education).
- Proficiency with assistive and adaptive technology for the visually impaired, plus ability to instruct in Braille.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to provide training to staff.
- Demonstrated experience using data-driven decision-making to guide student programming.
- Orientation and mobility training experience is preferred.
- Physical ability to travel, lift up to 10 pounds occasionally, and access a range of facilities.
- Reliable transportation and commitment to fulfilling district screening and credentialing processes.
