Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and valid Louisiana DOE certification in visual impairment (required)
- Visually impaired certification (required)
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching elementary or secondary or special education
- Strong communicator, inspiring, and able to motivate peers and students
- Proven ability in data-driven decision making and analytical problem-solving
- Skilled in assistive technology, Braille instruction, and ideally, orientation and mobility training
- Professionalism and disciplined multi-tasking in dynamic environments
- Able to pass district-required drug screen and fingerprinting
Key Responsibilities
- Travel between assigned sites to provide direct and consultative services for visually impaired students
- Obtain and maintain specialized materials and textbooks
- Develop and facilitate in-service training for school staff
- Collaborate regularly with general education teachers and maintain communication with the Louisiana Department of Education
- Adapt reading materials and ensure student supports
- Perform duties assigned by leadership, demonstrating flexibility
