Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field
- Experience working with students with visual impairments in school settings preferred
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional materials
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess student abilities and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) addressing each student’s unique needs
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of assistive technology
- Adapt curriculum materials for accessibility and support classroom teachers in modifications
- Track and document student progress, reporting findings to staff and parents
- Act as an advocate for students, coordinating and participating in IEP meetings
- Keep up-to-date with developments and best practices in visual impairment education
