TVI - Mackinaw, Illinois
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as an itinerant Teacher of the Visually Impaired serving multiple schools throughout Central Illinois. This crucial, full-time role is designed to cover a 12-week maternity leave, anticipated from the end of October through mid-February. You’ll provide essential support to students with visual impairments, fostering their access to the curriculum and helping them reach their highest potential.
Key Qualifications:
- Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience supporting students with visual impairments in school settings
- Ability to travel between sites, with reliable transportation
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working alongside general/special education staff and families
- Organizational skills to manage individualized instruction and progress monitoring
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the unique needs of students and schools
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction and tailored support to students with visual impairments across several campuses (Bloomington, Normal, El Paso, Downs, Pontiac, LeRoy, and Colfax)
- Consult with teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to ensure inclusive learning experiences
- Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
- Develop, implement, and track Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and student goals
- Adapt instructional materials and classroom environments to maximize accessibility
- Advocate for and facilitate the use of assistive technology as appropriate
- Maintain documentation and participate in IEP meetings
