Empower students of all ages as a dedicated professional serving K-12 learners with visual impairments. In this contract position, you'll provide essential instructional and adaptive services for children from kindergarten through 12th grade, working full-time Monday through Friday (37.5 hours/week). This role may involve traveling between school sites to support students across the district, collaborating closely with educators, families, and support staff.
Qualifications:
- State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility for certification
- Experience working with students in Grades K–12 with visual impairments
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) specific to visual impairment needs
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology and Braille instruction
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between different school sites as needed
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and materials
- Assess student needs and create effective IEP goals and progress monitoring methods
- Train school staff on best practices for inclusion and accessibility
- Consult with teachers, administrators, parents, and therapy providers to ensure students’ needs are met
- Introduce and support the use of adaptive tools and technology
- Foster independence and self-advocacy skills in students
- Provide functional vision assessments and orientation/mobility training as appropriate
