Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with children and young adults who are blind or have low vision
- Strong understanding of assistive technology for visually impaired learners
- Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication skills for working with students, staff, and families
- Familiarity with Braille, large print, and other accessible instructional materials
- Commitment to fostering inclusion and independence for all students
Responsibilities:
- Assess the individual needs of students with visual impairments and adapt lessons accordingly
- Provide direct instruction in academic, daily living, and orientation/mobility skills
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curricula and materials
- Support the use of assistive devices and train students and staff in their use
- Maintain up-to-date documentation and contribute to student IEP development and meetings
- Advocate for accessible materials and environments throughout the school
