Key Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments in an educational setting
- Strong understanding of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive strategies for curriculum access
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, families, and support staff
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments across various grade levels, both individually and in small groups
- Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments to inform individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Develop and implement lesson plans tailored to students’ unique needs and learning styles
- Train students and staff in the use of assistive technology, mobility aids, and adaptive equipment
- Advocate for the inclusion and accessibility of all educational materials and activities
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports in alignment with school policies and legal requirements
- Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
