Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment or a similar credential
- Demonstrated experience working with school-aged students who are blind or visually impaired
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive instructional strategies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress
- Commitment to inclusion and advocacy for students of all abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultation services for students with visual impairments in various educational settings
- Develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet students’ unique needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and families to foster student independence
- Administer functional vision and learning media assessments
- Support the transition and mobility training, as needed
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of individualized goals
- Maintain thorough documentation and progress reports in accordance with district and state guidelines
