Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with students who have visual impairments in an educational setting
- Knowledge of adaptive technology and Braille instruction
- Ability to conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
- Strong organizational skills and the capacity to manage caseloads across multiple grade levels
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with families, staff, and related service providers
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative instructional services to students with visual impairments according to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Adapt curriculum materials and provide instruction in Braille, large print, and technology-based assistive tools
- Assess students’ functional vision and recommend appropriate accommodations or devices
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, orientation and mobility specialists, and other colleagues to ensure learning access
- Train staff and families on assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and strategies to foster student independence
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for compliance and progress monitoring
