Key qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and current certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, with active Louisiana DOE credentials
- Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Proficiency in assistive technology relevant to visually impaired students
- Strong communication skills, with a knack for analytical problem-solving and organization
- Ability to work self-sufficiently and travel daily between school locations using reliable personal transportation
- Successful completion of drug screening and fingerprinting, as required for employment
Essential responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instructional support and specialized services to visually impaired students (exact caseload and age range to be determined)
- Provide expert guidance through travel to multiple campuses, meeting students’ varied needs
- Work alongside general educators to prepare accessible materials in Braille and other adaptive formats
- Select, source, and ready specialized textbooks and adaptive learning resources
- Offer in-service trainings to school staff, enhancing inclusive practices
- Maintain communication with the Louisiana Department of Education regarding student growth and service implementation
- Train students and staff on a variety of assistive technologies, serving as a trusted resource
- Instruct students in Braille and, as appropriate, assist with orientation and mobility
- Maintain accurate records and complete additional duties as assigned
