Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Ooltewah, TN
Make an impact by supporting students with visual impairments across all grade levels! As a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), you’ll provide vital instruction and guidance to K-12+ students in both general and special education settings. This full-time contract opportunity, beginning August 5, 2026 and ending May 19, 2027, offers flexibility—part-time schedules are also being considered. You’ll be assigned to a group of schools in a manner designed to minimize travel time, with a caseload split evenly among elementary, middle, and high school students.
Your expertise in Braille and assistive technology will empower students to thrive in their academic environments. Bringing knowledge of the Federal Quota program and experience navigating IEP platforms—specifically the TN Pulse system—will be valuable as you collaborate with staff and attend meetings for your students’ educational plans.
Key skills and experience:
- Active DOE certification required
- Completed fingerprinting (time-sensitive requirement)
- Experience supporting K-12+ students with visual impairments in both general ed and special ed classrooms
- Proficient in Braille instruction and use of Assistive Technology
- Familiarity with Federal Quota program for assistive technology preferred
- Comfortable traveling between school campuses (geographically grouped for convenience)
- Experience with IEP processes, ideally using the TN Pulse platform
- Willingness to attend and meaningfully contribute to IEP meetings
- Adept with technology—district uses Chromebooks for students
