Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in Visual Impairment (CA credential preferred)
  • Experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in K-12 settings
  • Proficiency in braille instruction and familiarity with assistive technology for visual impairments
  • Strong skills in collaboration, consultation, and effective communication with educators, families, and support staff
  • Ability to travel between school sites as part of an itinerant role
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and accessibility for all learners

Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultative services to educators, adapting curriculum and recommending accommodations that foster student independence
  • Deliver targeted braille instruction for students requiring direct skill support
  • Assess and monitor student progress, updating educational teams and families regularly
  • Assist in developing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
  • Offer training and resources to school staff regarding the needs and best practices for teaching visually impaired learners
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure compliance with all relevant standards
