Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering direct instructional support and specialized educational services to visually impaired students (specific caseload and age range to be determined).
  • Traveling between various school campuses daily to address unique student needs and provide expert guidance.
  • Collaborating with general educators to ensure accessible materials, including Braille and other appropriate mediums, are consistently available.
  • Sourcing, preparing, and adapting specialized textbooks along with other learning materials.
  • Providing in-service training for school staff to promote inclusive and supportive learning environments.
  • Communicating consistently with the Louisiana Department of Education regarding student progress and the implementation of services.
  • Acting as a resource and trainer for assistive technology tailored to visually impaired students.
  • Teaching Braille and, as applicable, providing orientation and mobility support.
  • Completing documentation, record-keeping, and any additional tasks assigned by program leadership.

Key qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and current certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, including active Louisiana DOE credentials.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience within elementary, secondary, or special education settings.
  • Familiarity and expertise with a wide range of assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, organizational, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to travel between school sites daily using your own transportation.
  • Passing a drug screening and fingerprinting check is required.
