Desired Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification with an endorsement or specialization in Visual Impairment education
- Experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) in a school setting
- Solid understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive curriculum materials
- Strong communication skills and the ability to advocate for students’ needs
- Ability to assess functional vision and design appropriate classroom accommodations
- Current knowledge of best practices and legal requirements related to special education
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting lessons and materials as necessary
- Collaborate with general education staff, related service providers, and families to support student learning
- Conduct and interpret functional vision and learning media assessments
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Train students in the use of assistive devices, orientation and mobility techniques, and skills for independent living
- Maintain clear documentation of services and progress
- Participate in IEP meetings, professional development sessions, and ongoing team collaboration
