Qualifications/Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or specialized credential for Teachers of the Visually Impaired.
- Proven experience working with children and adolescents who are visually impaired, preferably within a school setting.
- Strong understanding of adaptive technology, Braille instruction, and accessible educational materials.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and families.
- Ability to assess students’ needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations surrounding special education services.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative educational services to students with visual impairments across various grade levels.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
- Teach Braille reading and writing, as well as orientation and mobility skills as appropriate.
- Advise and support general education teachers in adapting curriculum, classroom environments, and instructional strategies.
- Utilize and train students in the use of assistive technologies and accessible learning tools.
- Regularly communicate with parents, guardians, and other team members regarding student progress and strategies for classroom and home support.
- Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance records.
