Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification or credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Strong understanding of Braille instruction and assistive technology for the visually impaired
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Ability to adapt and modify curriculum for students with differing levels of vision
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Familiarity with legal guidelines and best practices for supporting visually impaired students
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with vision impairments across grade levels
- Assess students’ needs and progress, adapting teaching strategies accordingly
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to integrate accommodations
- Develop and oversee IEP goals and participate in meetings with school teams and families
- Teach Braille, orientation and mobility concepts, and use of specialized equipment or technology
- Serve as a resource for staff on strategies and tools for accessibility
