Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid certification or credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Strong understanding of Braille instruction and assistive technology for the visually impaired
  • Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Ability to adapt and modify curriculum for students with differing levels of vision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with legal guidelines and best practices for supporting visually impaired students

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with vision impairments across grade levels
  • Assess students’ needs and progress, adapting teaching strategies accordingly
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to integrate accommodations
  • Develop and oversee IEP goals and participate in meetings with school teams and families
  • Teach Braille, orientation and mobility concepts, and use of specialized equipment or technology
  • Serve as a resource for staff on strategies and tools for accessibility
