Qualifications and Experience:
- Credentialed or certified as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Previous experience supporting students with visual impairments, preferably in a school setting
- Proficiency in teaching Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility skills
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with educators, families, and specialists
- Innovative approach to adapting curriculum and resources
- Committed to advocating for student needs and equitable access
Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction based on student IEPs and learning objectives
- Conduct assessments to determine functional vision, learning media, and ongoing progress
- Adapt classroom materials, technology, and teaching strategies for optimal accessibility
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate inclusive practices
- Guide families and staff in the use of assistive devices and resources
- Monitor and document student progress, preparing regular reports as required
- Support students in developing self-advocacy, organization, and daily living skills
