Key Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification
- Prior experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments preferred
- In-depth knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to visually impaired learners
- Familiarity with Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
- Strong collaboration skills to coordinate with teachers, specialists, and families
- Excellent communication skills to advocate effectively for student needs
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum materials as needed
- Develop and implement IEPs, assessing student progress and updating goals appropriately
- Support general education teachers with strategies and accommodations to foster inclusive classrooms
- Facilitate student access to assistive technology and orientation/mobility training
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and communicate progress to families and staff
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by school and district policies
