As a Braille Transcriptionist, you’ll help shape meaningful learning experiences at the secondary academy level by converting printed textbooks, classroom handouts, and examinations into accessible Braille formats. Your expertise will be invaluable in creating accessible curriculum materials for middle and high school students, allowing them to fully participate in academic life.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of one year operating Braille typing equipment
- Certification as a Braille transcriber preferred
- Prior experience in an educational setting is an asset
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Dedication to facilitating equitable learning opportunities for visually impaired students
- Ability to collaborate effectively with educators and school staff
Role Responsibilities:
- Convert a variety of educational materials, including tests, worksheets, and handouts, into Braille
- Coordinate closely with teachers of the visually impaired to ensure accuracy and timeliness of materials
- Manage and organize multiple assignments for students at the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering Secondary
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to educational standards
- Participate in regular meetings and trainings as needed
