Key Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Previous experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adapted instructional strategies
- Ability to develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary staff
- Compassion, adaptability, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting materials and methods as needed
- Assess students’ abilities and needs, maintaining accurate records and progress reports
- Consult with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and specialists to ensure students’ needs are met within the classroom
- Provide training and support to school staff on accommodations, assistive technologies, and best practices
- Contribute to IEP meetings, helping shape educational goals and services for each student
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusion in academic and extracurricular activities
