Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current state certification or eligibility for certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments in educational settings
- Strong understanding of individualized educational plans (IEPs) and adaptations for blindness or low vision
- Knowledge of assistive technology and braille literacy
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to travel between schools or sites as needed
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments tailored to their unique learning needs
- Assess students’ functional vision and deliver recommendations for classroom accommodations
- Develop and implement IEPs in partnership with educators, administrators, and caregivers
- Adapt curriculum materials, provide braille or large print resources, and recommend technology tools
- Consult and train staff on strategies for inclusion and accessibility
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as necessary
- Advocate for the needs of visually impaired students within the school community
