Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Burnsville, Minnesota
Embark on an impactful assignment supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. This contract role begins September 8, 2026, and runs through June 10, 2027, providing consistent weekly hours (37.5/week) and the opportunity to create meaningful learning experiences for students with vision impairments.
In this position, you'll collaborate across 2-3 educational centers and manage a caseload of 25-30 students. Most learners have visual impairments, and some may also experience secondary or tertiary disabilities, including significant behavioral or physical challenges. Successful candidates are compassionate, adaptable, and comfortable working in robust special education settings.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid and current licensure as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with learners with significant disabilities or in a setting 4 environment
- Ability to effectively adapt curriculum, technology, and materials for students with visual impairments
- Strong organizational skills for managing caseloads across multiple buildings
- Collaborative mindset for partnering with educational teams, families, and ancillary staff
- Excellent communication, advocacy, and relationship-building abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with varying vision and additional disabilities
- Assess student needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Consult and partner with general/special educators to promote accessibility and inclusion
- Monitor student progress and document growth
- Travel between assigned educational centers as needed
