- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience supporting K-12 students with visual impairments or blindness
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility concepts
- Ability to design individualized instruction plans tailored to student needs
- Collaborative mindset for working alongside general/special education staff, families, and related service providers
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs, providing direct specialized instruction and consultation
- Develop and adapt curriculum materials using appropriate formats (Braille, large print, audio, tactile symbols)
- Teach students skills such as Braille literacy, use of assistive technology, daily living skills, and orientation and mobility concepts
- Consult and train classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents on best practices and accommodations
- Monitor student progress through regular data collection and adjust strategies as needed
- Participate in IEP meetings, contribute to educational planning, and stay current on compliance requirements
- Support a positive and inclusive school culture that ensures students with visual impairments thrive
