Teacher of Visually Impaired - Clarion, PA
Seeking an experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired for a full-time contract role supporting preschool and school-age students. This rewarding position is based near Clarion, PA and follows a 185-day professional calendar. The right candidate will provide specialized vision services and evaluations, making a significant difference in students’ educational journeys.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Pennsylvania certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired required
- Certification in Orientation and Mobility (O&M) preferred, but not required
- Experience delivering vision services in school settings is highly valued
- Thorough understanding of special education regulations and best practices
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration
- Skillful management of caseloads, documentation, and scheduling
- Competence in using educational and assistive technology
Responsibilities:
- Conduct vision assessments and deliver direct instructional services to eligible preschool and school-age students
- Contribute actively to the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Communicate effectively with service providers, families, RIU6, and school personnel to ensure coordinated support
- Manage records, reports, and required documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Prioritize student safety, welfare, and engagement in all activities
- Participate in school-based meetings and interdisciplinary team collaborations
- Perform physical tasks as required, including walking, standing, stooping, and lifting up to 20 pounds, with occasional lifting of equipment or materials up to 40 pounds
