Desired qualifications and background:
- Valid California credential for teaching students with visual impairments, or eligibility to obtain
- Previous experience as a Visually Impaired Teacher (preferred but not required)
- Strong advocacy skills for students’ educational and accessibility needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities for collaboration with staff, families, and students
- Ability to adapt instructional materials and techniques to meet a variety of learning needs
- Dedication to creating a supportive, inclusive learning environment
Key responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs
- Develop and adapt lesson plans and instructional materials
- Offer consultative support and professional guidance to classroom teachers and staff
- Foster students’ independent living, orientation and mobility, and self-advocacy skills
- Collaborate with families and interdisciplinary teams to ensure each child’s educational objectives are met
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation for student progress and required reports
