- Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or demonstrated proficiency in braille and braille-related technology
- Prior experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments in educational settings
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work alongside other educators and support staff
- Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Ability to adapt instructional materials and classroom activities to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills for supporting students and guiding families
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning atmosphere
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing direct instructional support to students with visual impairments, both individually and in groups
- Assessing and addressing students’ educational, social, and emotional needs through tailored lessons
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to modify curricula and adapt materials, ensuring accessibility for all students
- Producing or transcribing educational materials in braille (applies to brailler positions)
- Offering training and support to staff in using assistive technology and braille resources
- Participating in IEP meetings and contributing expert insights for student success
