Additionally, if you have experience as a braille transcriber or can refer someone with this skillset, there is the potential to play an integral role in supporting our program’s success.
Qualifications and Experience Sought:
- State certification or licensure as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired; O&M certification highly desirable
- Proven classroom experience working with visually impaired students in a school setting
- Competency in assessing student needs and developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Effective communication and collaboration with education teams, parents, and support staff
- Knowledge of accessible technologies, tactile graphics, and adaptive equipment
- Braille proficiency and experience in transcription are a significant plus
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group instruction tailored for students with visual impairments
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and families to adapt curriculum materials
- Guide students in the use of assistive technology and tools to enhance learning
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to IEP development and progress tracking
- If certified, deliver Orientation & Mobility instruction to foster student independence
- Support the creation and transcription of classroom materials into accessible formats
