We are seeking a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and are open to candidates who are also dually credentialed or certified as an Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist. Additionally, there may be a need for a skilled braille transcriber to further support our students’ success.
Qualifications & Experience Desired:
- Valid credential or certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist certification and experience highly valued
- Experience working in school settings or with children and adolescents who have visual impairments
- Proficiency with adaptive technology and accessible instructional materials
- Strong knowledge of braille and tactile graphics
- For the braille transcriber role: recognized braille transcription certification
- Collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals related to vision support
- Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies for accessibility
- Instruct and support students in the development of compensatory skills, including braille and assistive technology
- If dual certified, deliver Orientation & Mobility instruction to foster independent travel and safety
- Collaborate with general educators, related service providers, and families
- For braille transcribers: translate curriculum and materials into accessible braille format
