Qualifications and Experience Needed:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Proficiency in Braille and experience as a Braillist
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students in an educational setting preferred
- Strong understanding of assistive technology for low vision/blind students
- Ability to develop, adapt, and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with staff, students, and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional support and orientation/mobility techniques to students with visual impairments
- Produce and translate classroom materials and assignments into accessible formats including Braille, large print, and tactile graphics
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusion and accessibility in a variety of subjects
- Monitor and document student progress; recommend appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Support classroom staff with training on best practices and assistive technology for the visually impaired
- Participate in IEP meetings and help guide educational planning
- Maintain compliance with state and federal guidelines for students with disabilities
