Key Qualifications:
- Current certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Deep understanding of braille, assistive technologies, and accommodations for visual impairments
- Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Ability to assess student needs and adapt lessons accordingly
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for partnering with teachers, therapists, families, and staff
- Flexible and adaptive mindset for working in diverse school environments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support tailored to students with visual impairments, from early learners through high school
- Develop and implement progress-driven instructional plans, modifying curriculum as needed
- Assess students’ skills and collaborate on functional and academic goals within the IEP process
- Consult with classroom teachers and staff to ensure accessible learning materials and inclusive practices
- Train and coach staff on best practices, tools, and adaptive technologies
- Support students’ orientation, mobility, and daily living skill development as needed
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to ongoing student evaluations
