Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in visual impairment or a related field
- Previous experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired or similar role in a school setting
- Strong knowledge of adaptive technology and Braille instruction
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills when working alongside teachers, service providers, families, and students
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments to support their educational goals
- Assess students’ abilities and needs in collaboration with IEP teams and other educators
- Design accessible lesson plans and modify curriculum materials as needed
- Teach Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and the use of assistive technology for access to learning
- Advocate for students’ needs and work closely with faculty and families to ensure inclusive educational experiences
- Maintain accurate records, progress notes, and collaborate on IEP development and progress review
