Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in Visual Impairment or completion of a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) program.
- Previous experience working with children or young adults who are visually impaired or blind.
- Strong knowledge of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and accessible educational materials.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families.
- Ability to assess, plan, and adapt lessons for students of varying abilities.
- Creative, flexible approach to teaching and advocacy for students’ success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility concepts, and assistive technology for visually impaired students.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with other educators and related service providers.
- Advocate for accessible curriculum and adapt instructional materials to meet student needs.
- Serve as a resource for classroom teachers, providing strategies, training, and support to enhance inclusion.
- Communicate regularly with families, offering updates on student progress and guidance for home activities.
- Attend IEP meetings and contribute expertise to assessment and planning processes.
