Key Qualifications:
- Valid North Carolina TVI (Teacher of the Visually Impaired) license and current certification required
- Experience teaching or supporting K-12 students with visual impairments highly preferred
- Ability to develop and adapt individualized educational plans (IEPs) for students with varying degrees of visual need
- Strong advocacy, communication, and collaboration skills with students, staff, and families
- Flexibility and creativity in delivering engaging instruction, often integrating adaptive technology
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to visually impaired students, tailoring strategies to meet individual needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to ensure an inclusive classroom environment
- Develop, implement, and maintain progress on IEPs and educational goals
- Assist in the selection and adaptation of instructional materials and assistive devices
- Monitor student progress and modify teaching as appropriate to maximize learning outcomes
- Engage in professional development and remain informed of best practices for vision education
