Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Comprehensive understanding of strategies, technologies, and curriculum modifications for students with visual impairments
- Familiarity with Braille instruction and assistive technology for visual accessibility
- Strong communication and organizational skills to engage with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
- Ability to assess and adapt instructional materials to meet individual student needs
- Previous school-based experience supporting visually impaired learners is highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction to support academic achievement and life skills for students with vision loss or impairment
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals specific to visual needs
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, therapists, and other service providers to ensure inclusive practices
- Teach Braille, orientation and mobility concepts, and the use of assistive technology tools
- Advocate for appropriate accommodations and instructional material modifications
- Keep comprehensive records of student progress and effectively communicate updates to parents and staff
- Provide consultation and resources to school personnel on best practices for supporting visually impaired students
