Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current, active North Carolina TVI (Teacher of the Visually Impaired) certification or licensure is required
- Experience working with children or adolescents who have visual impairments, ideally within a school environment
- Ability to adapt curriculum and classroom materials for low vision or blind students
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with students, teachers, aides, and families
- Organizational skills to manage individualized educational plans (IEPs) and provide progress updates
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, either one-on-one or in small groups
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure accessibility and inclusion
- Assess students’ needs and participate in the development, implementation, and review of IEPs and 504 plans
- Introduce and support the use of adaptive technology and tactile learning tools
- Foster an encouraging and supportive classroom atmosphere, tailored to each student's individual needs
- Serve as an advocate for visually impaired students, enhancing their educational outcomes and independence
