Desired Qualifications:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working in school settings or with children/students who have visual impairments
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility best practices
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with families, staff, and support personnel
- Ability to design and adapt instructional materials for students with visual impairments
- Creativity and patience in tailoring lessons and activities to individual needs
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and advocacy for inclusive education
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ abilities and create individualized instructional programs to address their unique learning needs
- Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, daily living skills, and use of specialized equipment or technology
- Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure accessible learning environments
- Assist in the selection, acquisition, and adaptation of instructional materials
- Facilitate communication with families to support student progress and participation
- Track and document student goals, progress, and required reports in compliance with IEP processes
